To Rent vs. Purchase Office Plants

HOW TO BEST TO FILL YOUR SPACE?

You can purchase your plants, and own them outright or opt to rent them from Plant Escape, and avoid the larger upfront expense of purchase, and still enjoy tropical plants in your lobby or offices.

Instead of paying the upfront costs to purchase plants for your space, Plant Escape can purchase them and rent them to your over a 2-year term. Once the 2 year period is over you can buy the plants from us for 40% of the original price or if you'd like, we can come in and do a total redesign with new plants and containers.

As far as the money goes, with a rental, you won't pay anything up front - but we'll break up the expense for the shipping and installation of the plants and containers over the term of the contract and add it to the ongoing maintenance cost.

While the cost of renting varies based on the plants and containers you choose, in general terms it adds about 40% to the monthly cost of ongoing care and guarantee. So as an example, if the ongoing monthly maintenance was $170 per month, and you decided to rent the plants, the monthly cost might go up to around $235.

We care for all plants and guarantee they will continue looking beautiful and meet our highest standards for quality whether you rent them or purchase them. If something should happen to a plant, we will replace it at no additional cost to you.

While we love to rent indoor office plants and containers, we're not able to rent permanent living walls or moss walls (if you were to stop paying us, it would be really difficult for us to come get them back - they're rather attached). We're also not able to rent exterior plants like flowers or trees (again, hard to get back - roots and all, you understand). But with that being said - we'd be happy to finance your project for you.

Office plants can vary quite widely in price as the plants go up in value almost exponentially with the size of the plant. As an example, a plant in a 4″ grow pot might cost around $10 while a plant in a 6″ grow pot will run you around $25 and a 10″ grow pot will be in the $75 range.

A major consideration with free standing plants is the containers they will go in. Very simple round or square containers can be less than $20 each for small plants and around $75 for larger plants. On the high side planters can cost upwards of a couple of thousand dollars each. (Exterior planters can be several thousand each.) But in general, you can expect to have around 1/3 of your cost be for the plants and 2/3rds for the planters. As an example, the most common office plant is in a 10″ grow pot. A 10″ Dracena will run you around $75 and a nice square, matte white or black container for it will cost around $150. So all-in about $225 to have a beautiful plant added to your space. Other expenses include delivery of materials / shipping, trip charges (bring the guys out) and dump fees if materials need to be removed.

When you purchase plants, you own them outright. As long as you work with us for ongoing care of the plants, we'll guarantee them for the life of the relationship. While there are a few caveats to the guarantee (such as someone stealing the plant, or dumping coffee repeatedly in them.. ) we'll keep them looking great. If one does begin to fail or just look sad, we'll swap it as a condition of the contract with no additional expense to you.
